Writing blog posts is an excellent way to show your expertise, which is an important part of your personal branding strategy. You may be wondering, though, how you can constantly keep up with creating new content for your blog. In other words, how do you ensure you never run out of blog post topics?

#1: Brainstorm a list of topics

Take out a sheet of paper and number it from 1-50. Now, brainstorm a list of 50 topics that you can blog about. Keep the topics short and sweet, and break down bigger topics into smaller ones. Once you finished brainstorming, go back and cross off any topics you won’t write about. Hopefully, you’ll be left with a list of approximately 40 topics, and depending on how often you post, that should help you for the next six months or so.

#2: Transfer your topics to an editorial calendar

Once you have your topics identified, put them on an editorial calendar. Some people use a wall calendar, while others have success using Google Calendars. Use the right calendar for you! When you have your topics outlined on your calendar, you won’t have to worry about “what should I write about?” As a blog writer, it’s a terrible feeling to sit down in front of your computer and get stuck on your blog topic. With an editorial calendar, you will know the topic before you start writing, which is a huge timesaver.

#3: Always look out for more content ideas

Even though you may have your editorial calendar set for months in advance, it’s always a great idea to keep an eye (or ear) out for blog topic ideas. These ideas can come anywhere and anytime. Maybe it’s a question posed to you by a client or colleague. Or perhaps it’s a question someone asked on an online forum or social media group. It could even strike you when you’re working on something else.

Many blog writers keep journals with them to document when an idea “hits.” Whether it’s a small notepad or an app on your smartphone, make sure you have a way to keep track of your blog topic ideas. Most people will forget unless it gets written down, so make sure you document all those great ideas that come to you.

As you come up with new ideas, immediately add them to your editorial calendar. Don’t hesitate to move blog topics around. No one will know but you!
