Automation tools can help you with scheduling posts, monitoring your social media accounts and curating content. When used appropriately, automation tools can help you save time and energy when marketing through social media.
Here are three tips to help you get maximum effectiveness with social media automation tools:
#1: Find the right automation tools
This may seem like a no-brainier, but I have seen many people try to use social media automation tools that aren’t the best fit for them. Just like when you are shopping for shoes, you need to “try on” these tools to find the best fit for your objectives and comfort level. Do your research and ask for recommendations. Often, you will find that you need more than one tool to get the job done.
Here are some different automation tools to check out:
#2: Don’t post and run
Social media automation tools are great for scheduling posts, but this doesn’t mean you should “post and run.” This is when you schedule all of your social media posts for the day or week, and never look at your social media accounts again until it is time to schedule the posts again. The most important part of social media is the interaction you have with your fans and followers. Take time to have conversations with the people you meet. This is how you will become trustworthy and build authentic relationships with people.
#3: Use the analytics available through your automation tool
Most social media automation tools have some sort of analytical dashboard – a place where you can evaluate the effectiveness of your social media efforts. Be sure to spend time (at least once a week) looking over your analytics. This will help improve your social media efforts.
For example, on Hootsuite, you can determine which tweets got the most clicks, or how many Twitter followers you gained over a period of time. Facebook has a robust Insights reporting tool for all business pages, where you can see which posts got the most engagement, or what countries your fans are coming from. By evaluating this information, you can make smarter decisions about the type of content you want to post in the future.
Social media automation tools are great ways to save time while using social media. However it does not replace interactions you should be having with your fans and followers. Make sure to do your homework and find the best tool for you, and spend time in the analytics dashboards to improve your social media marketing. When you are using social media automations tools effectively, your entire social media experience will be more worthwhile for your personal brand.
