Having an email list full of your ideal customers is an essential part of growing your business. That’s because email marketing is one of the most effective and easiest ways to sell your products and services. In a September 2014 survey by Ascend2, 54% of marketers surveyed indicated that email marketing delivered the most return on investment (ROI).
So, how can you attract your ideal customers to your email list? One of the most powerful ways is to partner with other entrepreneurs and organizations.
Check out these three ways to grow your email list through partnerships:
#1: A one-on-one joint partnership
A one-on-one joint partnership is a “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” type of relationship. With this type of partnership, you agree to email your list an offer from your partner, and your partner agrees to do the same. For example, one time I did a one-on-one joint partnership with a fellow entrepreneur where we hosted webinars to each other’s lists. She did a webinar one month to my peeps, and I did a webinar the following month to hers.
For my webinar, I set up the landing page so that whoever registered for the webinar was also opting into my list (Note: Make sure to be transparent here. Tell those who are registering that they are opting in to your newsletter or marketing emails). I also made an offer at the end of the webinar to continue the relationship.
The key to a successful one-on-one joint partnership is to find the partner with a similar or larger list size, and whose clients are also similar to yours. Be selective with this type of partnership, and you’ll reap the highest benefit.
#2: Participate in a telesummit
Many entrepreneurs host telesummits, which are like virtual conferences where speakers offer their insights on a specific topic. The telesummit host will run the event, often supplying you with email copy and promotional ideas. In turn, you supply a free gift and an interview, and you email your list about the telesummit. Anyone who participates in the telesummit will have an opportunity to get your free gift by opting in through your landing page. That way, you’ll get the email addresses.
Some telesummit opportunities are free while others are paid. I’ve had success with both types. The key is to make sure the telesummit host is marketing to your ideal clients. You want this to be a great match for both you and the host.
#3: Host your own telesummit
While participating in someone else’s telesummit will get you email addresses, hosting your own telesummit is a great way to get even more email addresses. That’s because when you are the host, you get every opt in – not just the ones who want your free gift.
Here’s how it works: You set up a landing page where people opt in to get the materials from the telesummit participants. That means everyone who opts in here is opting in to your list. With the right partners, you can grow your email marketing list by leaps and bounds. However, hosting a telesummit is not an easy task. It does take time and energy. You may want to participate in a few first before forging out on your own. That way you can learn what works – and what doesn’t.
Finding the right partners – whether through one-on-one partnerships or through telesummits – is a fantastic way to reach new people and grow your email list. Just remember to be selective about who you partner with. It needs to be a “win win” for all parties, and you want to ensure your partners will help you connect with your ideal clients. With the right partnerships, your email list will grow – and so will your sales.
