Cheryl J. Muir
What is your profession?
Well… I have a number of strings to my bow! The short answer – I’m an author, entrepreneur and former Public Relations professional, and I help aspiring authors make their book dream happen.
But I always say:
My heart and soul is an author.
My brain is an entrepreneur.
My qualifications show I’m a marketer and media expert and a Certified Life Coach.
Who are your ideal clients? Who do you heal or help?
I work with incredibly driven, creative women who have a yearning to write a book. Often, it’s an idea they’ve had for many years and they don’t know where to start and they feel overwhelmed. My clients come from a variety of backgrounds. Sometimes they are entrepreneurs who secretly want to write fiction; other times, they are working in their day job and want to write self-help. Watching their eyes light up as they realize their book dream IS possible gives me such a rush! It’s immensely satisfying.
How do you help people?
Given my background in corporate PR and my certification as a life coach, plus my experience as a present-day author, I combine all of these skills together and teach these lessons through courses and 1:1 work. Some of the lessons include creating a personal brand as an author, building a readership, and gaining confidence essential to getting the words down on paper and actually publishing their book.
What is your typical day like?
I’m an INFJ on the Myers-Briggs typology scale, and a characteristic of INFJs is we tend to work in energy spikes as opposed to one long, sustained period of time. One method that works really well for me is to have a list of the tasks for the week, with hourly chunks assigned to each task. Each night, I choose 3-5 large tasks to accomplish the following day. That gives me enough structure to get sh*t done, and enough flexibility to keep my creative brain happy!
What makes your job so much fun?
Combining my deep love of books and writing, along with PR magic, is REALLY fun for me! It’s also fun to be writing books alongside my clients and it helps me understand them better. Being in the creative process myself, and sharing my insights with those I help, feels really natural. Perhaps it sounds cheesy, but it’s doing what I love, and helping others do the same. It’s a wonderful position to be in.
What is your favorite quote?
“She believed she could, so she did.”
