The very first thing I teach all of my Celestial Marketing Academy students is to get (or update their) professional photos. You may be surprised that the first module is about professional photos, but I have found entrepreneurs – especially women – shy away from professional photos.
It’s time to nip this in the butt! You need professional photos! And if it’s been more than a year or two since you’ve last had photos taken, it’s time to update them.
Why you need professional photos
Let’s first talk about why you need professional photos.
Your business is not a hobby – it’s a bona fide business, which means you need to invest money and energy in things that “real entrepreneurs” (as opposed to hobbyists) need. Professional photos are definitely a must have for your business, and here’s why.
Imagine you are your ideal client, and you are looking to hire someone to help them solve this big problem. You find two websites for entrepreneurs who may be your potential problem solver. One website has a professional photo of the entrepreneur, and the other site has a photo of the business owner from what looks like someone’s wedding (“is that someone’s arm draped around her shoulder?”).
If you are your ideal client, which impression are you immediately getting – just based on these two photos?
More than likely, you will have a GREAT impression about the first entrepreneur because she looks like she is serious about helping you, while the second entrepreneur looks unprofessional and not really committed to her business.
Tough love: You only have one chance to make a good impression. And your cropped-out, evening gown selfie is not the impression you want to make!
“I am too fat/ugly/gray-haired/short/tall for professional photos.”
So, you don’t look like a supermodel? Who the hell does?
If I can have my professional photos made with my overweight body, acne scars and graying hair, you can too! A fantastic photographer will help you find the right pose to make you feel comfortable with your body, and if you want, the photographer can airbrush your facial imperfections.
You are beautiful – no matter what you look like – so get the professional photos and see how beautiful you are.
But I already have professional photos!
Awesome! Let me ask you: How long ago were your photos taken? And another question: Do you feel like you have enough poses for your marketing needs?
If it’s been a while, such as more than a year since you’ve had your photos taken, then it’s time to make the investment again.
And if you are tired of using the “same old photos” and want different poses, it’s also time to make the investment again.
Professional photos are not a “one and done” marketing investment. You need to budget yearly for new photos. You’ll thank me for this – trust me!
So, let’s wrap up this marketing strategy with an assignment for you. Schedule a photo shoot with a photographer today! Just do it, and let’s get that off your to-do list. When you see your awesome photos, you will be so glad you did!
